Privacy policy
What happens to your data when you visit, and how we handle personal data about people in our records.
Visiting this site
This website is a set of static pages. We do not:
- set cookies;
- run analytics or advertising trackers;
- ask you to create an account or fill in forms.
Some services we rely on necessarily process technical data when you visit:
- GitHub Pages hosts the site. Like any web host, it receives your IP address and browser details when your browser requests a page, and may keep them in logs for security and operations. See GitHub's privacy statement.
- Cloudflare provides our DNS (the system that turns our domain name into a server address). See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
We do not receive or store these logs ourselves.
Contacting us
If you message us on Telegram or X, or open an issue on GitHub, those platforms' privacy policies apply. GitHub issues are public. Do not put private information in an issue. For anything private, use a private contact route listed below.
We use what you send us only to respond to you and, if you are reporting a problem, to deal with it.
People in our records
Our pages name people as part of documenting the public record. They include officials acting in their official roles, parties to published court cases, and people whose public actions were reported in the press. We draw only on information that is already public. We use it for journalistic, academic and public-interest purposes, which UK data protection law recognises (see the Data Protection Act 2018). We do not publish private personal details; see our moderation policy.
If you are named, you can ask us to correct inaccurate information, to explain what we hold about you, or to remove an entry. We will consider every request against the public interest in the record and tell you what we decided and why.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of personal data about you. In the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office explains these rights, and you can complain to it if you are unhappy with how we handled your data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too, and the previous versions remain visible in our public source repository.
