Moderation policy
How content gets onto this site, what we remove, and how to report a problem.
How content gets here
The site does not currently accept user posts or comments. Everything published here is written or reviewed by the editors before it goes live, and every change is recorded in our public source repository.
Suggestions, sources and corrections reach us through GitHub issues and Telegram. We review them before anything is added. Suggesting something does not mean we will publish it.
When Independent Tribunal launches features that accept submissions from the public, this policy will be expanded before they open.
What we remove or decline
- Unlawful content in the jurisdictions we operate in, including material covered by our terrorism and proscribed organisations policy.
- Private personal information: home addresses, private contact details, identity documents, health or financial details, or anything that would let someone locate or target a private individual.
- Harassment: content aimed at intimidating, threatening or abusing a person.
- Unsupported accusations against named people. We do not publish claims that a named person committed a crime unless they rest on a public record, such as a charge, conviction or judgment, and we describe that record accurately.
- Copyright infringement: we link to sources and quote only what is needed for reporting and commentary.
- Material that sexualises children. It is removed immediately and reported to the relevant authorities.
People named in our records
We name officials acting in their official roles, parties to published court cases, and people whose public actions are documented in published reporting. We describe them by what the record shows, not by labels.
If you are named and believe an entry is inaccurate, out of date, unfair, or intrudes on your private life, tell us. We will review it, correct it if it is wrong, and where appropriate add your response or a link to it.
Reporting a problem
Use the contact routes below. Tell us the page address, what the problem is, and, if you are asking for a correction, what the correct position is and where it is documented.
We aim to acknowledge reports within 7 days. Urgent reports about unlawful content or personal safety are handled first.
Decisions and appeals
If we decide not to change something you reported, we will say why. You may ask us to look again, and a different editor will review the decision where possible.
